Description

This ring is designed around our love for Rosa the Sea Otter. It features a stainless steel core with sand from a local beach, hand-carved small seashells made of abalone, blue apatite stone, several shades of blue opal, and blue-pigmented aquamarine glow powder. This was designed to resemble the ocean and beach with snacks for Rosa.

All stones, opal, shells, and sand were hand set. Then the ring was turned on a lathe and layered with a protective coating that gives the ring a mild shine. 25% of all proceeds will be donated to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in celebration of Rosa’s 24th birthday

Who is Rosa?

Rosa’s the oldest sea otter at Monterey Bay Aquarium. She was found stranded between Sunset and Manresa State Beaches in southern Santa Cruz County in September 1999, only about four weeks old and weighing just over five pounds. In April 2000, she was released back to the wild, where she spent nearly two years until she began interacting with divers and climbing onto kayaks. Because of the potential risks to herself and the people, federal wildlife officials declared her non-releasable.

Rosa joined the sea otter exhibit in June 2002. During her years at the Aquarium, she’s put her maternal instincts to work — she’s reared more pups than any other active surrogate mother on exhibit. She’s one of the larger otters, and you can also identify her by the silvered-colored fur on her head and white freckles. After a feeding, you can often see her resting on the water’s surface at the center window. She gets her name from a character in John Steinbeck’s Tortilla Flat — the first of the author’s novels set on Cannery Row.

Wood and metal rings are a popular variation of traditional wooden rings. These rings are made with a wooden exterior but have a metal liner inside the band. This offers the best of both worlds, combining the organic feel and unique beauty of wood with the durability and strength of metal.

The metal liner is typically made from a hypoallergenic material such as titanium, stainless steel, or tungsten, which makes these rings an excellent option for those with metal allergies. The liner also adds strength and stability to the ring, ensuring it will last for years.

The combination of wood and metal can create a striking contrast that adds to the overall beauty of the ring. Wooden rings with metal liners offer a unique and durable option for those looking for a non-traditional wedding band or an eco-friendly and sustainable jewelry option.

All our products are made to order, individually handcrafted, and finished by hand; therefore, each product may differ slightly from what is shown in product images. Due to variability in natural products (wood, leather, etc.), some products might vary from what is shown in the product pictures. Due to different monitors or lighting effects, the actual item color might be slightly different from the color shown in the photos.

Ring Sizing and Resizing

We ask every customer to double check their ring size. Finger shape, blood pressure, temperature, body weight, and the width of a ring can affect size, so if you receive your ring and it feels a little snug or loose, then we can resize it a half size larger or smaller. Please note that resizing is limited to a 1/2 size larger or smaller, and it is essential to double check size before ordering, and if you need any help, don’t hesitate to message us or check out our ring sizers.

If you need to know your size, the best option is to be professionally sized by a jeweler local to you and to be sure to try on rings in the width you wish to order. If you cannot visit a jeweler and don’t know your ring size, then you can purchase a ring sizing kit from us and receive a discount on your next order (The discount is equivalent to the cost of the sizing kit). Once you receive the ring sizing kit, you can send us a photo to confirm the correct fit.

Ring Durability

Our rings are internally stabilized and externally strengthened with several layers of our protective coating. Of course, it’s important to note that wood rings are not as resilient to sudden impact or harsh abrasion as metal bands. There are some substances (such as abrasive cleansers or acetone) that might damage your ring’s finish, and certain activities (like weight lifting, construction, gardening, etc.) that we recommend taking your ring off prior to, but overall our rings are strong and safe for everyday wearing.

If an accident occurs or your ring is exposed to solvents, acetone, or other harsh chemicals, the protective clear coat may become damaged. If you notice that your clear coat is scratched or cloudy, contact us immediately and provide photos. Exercise extra care and avoid getting your ring wet until we can review and advise you on the next steps. In extreme cases, it may be necessary to refinish your ring. Refinishing is available for $40.

We understand that accidents can happen, especially if this is your first wood ring. If the coating on your ring is damaged within the first 6 months, we offer free refinishing and only ask that you pay for shipping.
